Education

I am currently a junior working on an undergraduate degree in English with a concentration on Creative Writing at Texas Tech University. I have a GPA of 3.9, and I've made the President's list over the last three semesters. After I finish my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending law school or graduate school in an effort to further my education.

Experience

Since my senior year of high school, I have helped my friends with their own essays through proof reading and critique. On the SAT, with essay, I scored an 1180, with a 610 in the English section and a 570 in the Math section I want to be a tutor because I simply love helping others with their writing. I enjoy giving feedback to other writers and I greatly value constructive criticism. I also enjoy helping others read deeper into text in order to understand the work on a more profound level. Over the course of my education, I have taken three creative writing classes in the genres of fiction and non-fiction. One class that interested me in particular was English 3351: True Crime Writing. This course taught me to write narrative non-fiction, the genre I am primarily interested in. I have also taken several classes in literature, including English 3325: Modern and Contemporary Lit, English 3323: Early American Lit, English 3302: Anglo Saxon Lit, and English 2323: British Literature. During the summer of 2019, I worked as an intern with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. During my time as an intern, I edited legal code and did legal research here and there. This experience has made me especially attentive and detail oriented.

Hobbies

With regards to English: I love to write! In my free time, I often find myself writing short stories in an effort to produce content worthy of publication. Currently, I am working on publishing my first story about a murder that happened on my campus back in the 60's. While True Crime may be my favorite genre, I also love writing about issues of race and politics, as well as history and religion. I thoroughly enjoy reading in my free time as well. Some of my favorite books are Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," George Takei's "They Called Us Enemy," Octavia Butler's "Kindred," David Sedaris' "Calypso," and the epic poem "Judith." When I'm not reading or writing, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and friends. I play a lot of video games as well, and I work at University Medical Center as a caterer.
